Grant Opportunities
The GIFT Center staff keeps abreast of current grant opportunities relevant to the UA community. Here you can find information on upcoming grant deadlines and requests for proposals (RFPs) from foundations and other sources.
GIFT Center Alert
The GIFT Center compiles a list of upcoming grant opportunities appropriate for the University setting and publishes it through the GIFT Center News Group. A sample GIFT Center Alert can be found here. To receive the Alert and other GIFT Center notices, please visit the GIFT Center News listserv.
Internal (UA) Grant Opportunities
The GIFT Center staff members have compiled a list of Internal Funding Opportunities available at the UA. This file may contain deadlines that have already passed and should be considered a snapshot in time that was last updated in September 2008.
Researching External Grant Opportunities
The following websites are provided as a starting point if you decide to forge into the world of external grantseeking research. Before you begin researching funders for the first time, we suggest reading the Pima County Public Library's discussion of the Fit-Funding Match for tips on how to successfully locate a possible funder.
The Foundation Center has many useful resources available to grantseekers with varied interests.
- The Foundation Center allows you to search for foundations on its homepage by name, state, or zip code.
- It also publishes RFPs covering a wide variety of interest areas from foundations nationwide in its Philanthropy News Digest RFP section. You can subscribe to the weekly electronic publication as well as search for RFPs covering specific issues by utilizing the "Browse by Subject" dropdown menu on the upper right side of the page.
- The Foundation Directory Online, a subscription grantseeking research database managed by the Foundation Center, is available by appointment for priority UA projects at the GIFT Center. It is also available to the public at all branches of the Pima County Public Library. To learn more about how you can utilize this key resource, please see Getting Started with Grantseeking.
Just Grants! Arizona also publishes a list of RFPs that focus solely on the Arizona grantseeking community. Click on the "RFPs and Pending Deadlines" box in the upper right-hand corner and follow the link to Current RFPs.
The Social and Behavioral Sciences Research Institute (SBSRI) at the UA produces weekly Funding Alerts of upcoming grant opportunities relevant for the social and behavioral sciences. You can view past Funding Alerts or search the archives for grant opportunities relevant to your project.
UA subscribes to the Community of Science database, which despite the name contains information about funding opportunities for all academic subjects. Database access is free from the University network. This comprehensive database will give information about government, foundation, and corporate funding opportunities. However, check any information you receive, as it is not always fully current.
The UA also subscribes to the IRIS Alert Service, an automated funding-alert program. It enables you, as a grant researcher at a subscribing institution, to create and save your own IRIS search profile. You can select your preferred search frequency (daily, weekly, or monthly) and delivery method (e-mail or password-protected website). The program runs your profile against the IRIS Database on the desired schedule and delivers the search results automatically. Sign up (via a UA-linked computer) here.
